Many Durban residents were left fearing for their lives after a freak thunder and hail storm on Sunday night.
Despite it only lasting several minutes, social media users claim the experience was “scary as hell.”
The storm – following a heatwave – left a significant damage on roads, properties and cars.

FREAK STORM HITS DURBAN
On Sunday evening, parts of Durban were hit by a thunderstorm, which included gale-force winds, lightning, and hailstones.
On social media, many residents claim to have spotted lightning in shades of red, purple, and green. Many complained that weather services did not issue a warning ahead of the storm.

Durban’s disastrous weather comes days after parts of Gauteng experienced a massive hailstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall, which damaged cars, properties, and infrastructure.
RESIDENT SPOTS ‘CREEPY FACES’
Meanwhile, a Durban resident has claimed to have spotted “creepy faces” in the sky during the storm.
In a video posted on TikTok, the woman claimed to have seen not one but two faces, with “eyes, nose, mouth and hair.”
“Who’s behind the cloud?” she posted.

And although tropical storms after a heat wave are nothing new, others described the storm as “scary as hell.”
“God is angry. We never had this damaging hail and storms that we are having regularly now.
