Do you have a braai planned this weekend? How about making some fun and creative starters and mains that you can just pop onto the fire for a glorious braai with friends and family? These bacon and yoghurt chicken sosaties are a great treat for the weekend and they’re so easy to put together. They are great as a starter when your guests get hungry but also very welcome for a main any day of the week.

Bacon and yoghurt chicken sosaties tips

If you enjoy healthy food that’s also really tasty, you’ll enjoy these. The red peppers are packed with Vitamin A, while the chicken is lean protein with bacon also being a protein source but we love that just because of what it is, right? The yoghurt marinade helps tenderize the chicken while it also has some spicy flavours to add to the party. You can also serve them with a yoghurt dipping sauce or tzatziki.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack 1 chicken Breasts

  • onion

  • red Pepper

  • pineapple

  • 200 g 200 bacon

  • 1 pack 1 sosatie sticks

  • For the Marinade
  • 1 cup 1 plain Yoghurt

  • 2 tsp 2 Hot English Mustard

  • 1 tsp 1 mixed herbs

  • 1 tbsp 1 masala

  • chili flakes to spice

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 olive Oil

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 coriander

  • salt to taste

  • freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  • Cut the chicken breasts into cubes.
  • In a bowl mix together the marinade ingredients.
  • Add the chicken cubes into the yoghurt marinade and let it lie for 5-6 hours turning it around half way through to fully absorb all over the cubes.
  • Cut the bacon into 3 cm pieces and set aside.
  • Cut the red peppers and pineapple into chunks that will fit sizeably onto the sosatie stick and set aside.
  • Start building your sosaties by placing a piece of red pepper followed by a piece of pineapple, then a piece of bacon and then a chicken cube. Repeat this process for the entire sosatie stick until the stick is 3/4’s full.
  • Once you have all your sosaties built, open up a braai griddle and place them next to one another and close the griddle.
  • Once your fire is ready place the griddle over the hot fire and make sure to turn it every five to ten minutes to make sure it is properly cooked.
  • Once it is cooked, dish up and enjoy every single piece.

Notes

  • You don’t have to add bacon, but if you love it as much as my family does it will make a great extra taste.
