Whether you enjoy this snack just with a thick slather of butter or you like to add some jam and cheese, this tasty snack is a winner. In the winter season, what is better than a vetkoek filled with curry mince? It is satisfying and will you with warmth and comfort from the inside out.

Preparing the vetkoek dough will not even take 15 minutes of your time but you need to allow the dough to proof for 30 to 60 minutes depending on the weather. If it is very cold and your kitchen is not very warm the dough may take a bit longer to rise.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml 500 warm water

  • 4 cups 4 flour

  • 1 packet 1 yeast

  • 4 tablespoons 4 sugar

  • ½ teaspoon ½ salt

  • 2 tablespoons 2 oil or more to fry

Method

  • Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and knead for 5 minutes.
  • Transfer into an oiled dish and proof.
  • After proofing, on a floured surface cut into equal portions, shape into balls and let them proof while heating oil to fry.
  • Fry until golden brown
