Nothing fills your home with a comforting aroma than that of freshly baked bread. This seed bread recipe will not only engulf your home with a pleasing fragrance but tempt you to enjoy a slice at any given opportunity.

Preparing this seed brad will take about 20 minutes of your time before you need to place it in the oven to bake for about an hour. And as you wait for this delicious bread to rise, you will start to inhale its addictive aroma.

Seed bread is perfect to enjoy as a snack or a side dish to your main meal. You can also serve it as an appetiser before the main meal.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml whole wheat flour

  • 2 cups rolled oats

  • 100 ml sunflower seeds

  • ½ cup linseeds

  • ½ cup chia seeds

  • 100 ml pumpkin seeds

  • 100 ml wheat germ

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 500 ml plain yoghurt

  • 1 cup sunflower oil

  • 6 tablespoons honey

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 egg

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C and line two loaf tins with baking paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, seeds, wheat germ, baking powder and baking soda and mix well.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the yoghurt, oil, honey and salt.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix well to combine.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared loaf tins, brush with egg wash, add seeds on top and then bake at 180°C for 20 minutes. Then turn down to 150°C and continue baking for 1 hour until the loaf is golden brown and a skewer inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool before serving.
