Winter is only in the mid-stages right now and you don’t want to cook all night and would enjoy a heartwarming meal without much effort. Soups are a great way to warm up during winter and you can pour anything you want into it. This nostalgic green pea soup is a truly South African favourite from the 1950s and all the way into the modern era.

Green pea soup tips

Cream of green pea soup is smooth and hearty with the addition of some ham or bacon. If you don’t like a chunky soup, use an immersion blender to blend it up. However, you can always add more bacon bits at the end to add texture again. Mint and peas always combine well and this tasty soup is no different by adding some freshness. It’s best enjoyed with a toasted sandwich or crusty bread.
