The story begins with a little old man and a little old woman who live in cottage.  They would have been happy except for the fact that they did not have a child. One day, when the old lady was making gingerbread, she cut a piece in the shape of a boy and put it into the oven.  When she opened the oven again, the little gingerbread boy jumped out and proceeded to run away as fast as he could. 

This is a  story loved by the little ones of all ages. But they’d loved it more if they had an opportunity to make the Gingerbread man. Below is an easy recipe for the Gingerbread man.

Ingredients

  • 350 g cake flour, plus extra for rolling

  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

  • 2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 125 g butter

  • 175 g light brown soft sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 4 tablespoon golden syrup

Method

  • Sift together flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon, and pour into the bowl of a food processor. Add the butter and blend until the mixture has the appearance of breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.
  • Beat the egg and syrup together lightly, add to the flour mixture and pulse until the dough clumps together. Tip out, knead briefly until smooth, wrap in Clingfilm and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough on a well floured surface (this is very important to ensure dough does stick to surface when transferring them) until its 5mm thick.
  • Cut into shapes using a gingerbread men cookie cutter.
  • Place them onto the trays leaving spaces in between in case they spread.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes.
