Having some extra pears at home? This delicious pear muffins recipe is an appetising snack to prepare for breakfast or as an anytime snack. This recipe is especially popular to prepare during the cooler months when pears are plentiful.

Preparing this recipe is so quick and easy. The brown sugar goes so well with the sun-kissed sweetness of the pears. You can keep things really simple or take them to the next level by spending a few extra minutes to brown the butter beforehand. Either way, they are amazing and make the perfect breakfast or any time-of-the-day treat!

  • ½ cup ½ unsalted butter

  • 1 cup 1 brown sugar

  • ¾ cup ¾ milk

  • 1 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon 1 vanilla extract

  • 2 cups 2 (325g) flour

  • 1 teaspoon 1 baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon 1 ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ¼ ground nutmeg

  • 2 cups 2 (300g) diced pear pieces


  • Preheat your oven to 170°C/ 190°C and grease or line a 12 hole muffin tin with paper liners.
  • Melt or (optionally) brown the butter in the microwave or on the stovetop (see note 1 for instructions). Allow cooling for a minute or two before continuing.
  • Combine your melted/browned butter and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the milk, egg and vanilla and combine well.
  • Sift in the flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon and nutmeg and stir a few times to begin to combine. At this point, add the diced pears and continue mixing until it is all well combined.
  • Spoon the mixture into the prepared muffin tins, filling them to the top of the pan. Bake the muffins for 20 minutes or until risen and golden on top.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
