The FNB Art Joburg 2019 Fair has undergone an extreme makeover! The fair, which was previously known as the Joburg Art Fair (JAF) kicks off tomorrow 13 September 2019 and will run until 15 September 2019 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
According to Wanted Online, FNB Art Joburg has a new owner; former director Mandla Sibeko, who is giving the fair a reboot in response to a changing art market and the needs of key galleries.
“The 2019 edition promises to be smaller, more focused, and unabashedly intent on presenting only work of the highest quality,” states Wanted Online. “The fair has retained FNB’s sponsorship, and with Sibeko at the helm there’s a degree of continuity, but they’re promising something quite different from previous years.”
What Sibeko ultimately wanted to do was make the fair more refined. And that’s why Art Joburg has decided to put on a fair of international stature, but with a real understanding of how the Joburg art market works.
This year’s event includes lifestyle a program of art parties, film screenings, gallery brunches, off-site artist-led collaborations, special exhibitions and sundowner sessions.
Those interested can also enjoy watching films from Shirin Neshat, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Herman De Klerk and Sitaara Stodel, at Egrek Cinema in Parkhurst, on 12 September at 12:00 and on 15 September at 10:00.
Art lovers can also enjoy mimosas at various Joburg galleries during their special exhibitions on 14 September 2019.

Other parties will take place at Ellis Park at The Tennis Club and Porompompompompo at the Cosmopolitan on 14 September 2019.
