If the dishes are piling up and remote work is starting to mess with your sanity, perhaps a bit of extra kids’ TV could very well go from “nice-to-have” to “absolutely essential”.

Here are five excellent animations for the youngsters to catch on Showmax, including great family-friendly shows and movies you can all enjoy together.

Animations to keep the kids busy

Hey Duggee, Season 1 and 2

Hey Duggee – which was voted as the Best Animated Series by Kidscreen 2020 – was created by Oscar-nominated animation director Grant Orchard, with narration by BAFTA-winning comedian Alexander Armstrong.

The Squirrels are a group of fun-loving tots who meet at the clubhouse with Duggee, the dog in charge of piling on the fun and games to help them earn different badges on their adventures, from treasure hunts to baking, bouncing to show and tell.

Each episode includes a simple little lesson and ends with a warm Duggee hug before the parents arrive to fetch their Squirrels.

The Snail And The Whale

The Snail And The Whale is a short 30-min adaption that will take the young ones on an amazing journey as they follow the story of a tiny snail who longs to see the world.

He ends up hitching a ride on the tail of humpback while and learns one vital lesson: No matter how small you are, you can still make a difference.

Where’s Waldo

The first season of Where’s Waldo will be a welcome distraction during this 21-day lockdown. With his stripy red and white jersey and bobble hat, it will guarantee hours of fun spend hunting him down.

Where’s Waldo? – which won the Best New Series award at Kidscreen 2020 – follows two young members of the WorldWide Wanderer Society on exciting missions around the globe as they explore cultures and countries of our world.

Get a head start now because season 2 is coming to Showmax at the start of April 2020.

Cleopatra in Space

Cleopatra In Space is based on the graphic novels by Mike Maihack and follows the story of Cleo, an ancient Egyptian Princess who longs for adventure but is held back by duty and responsibility.

Cleo is transported 30 000 years into the future, where she ends up getting chased by killer robots, escaping on a spaceship, and discovering a planet ruled by talking cats.

She also learns that she’s meant to save the world! Parents, be warned: this is such a fun take on the original Cleopatra story, we’re almost guaranteed you’d enjoy it more than the kiddos.

Star Wars Resistance, season 1

Star Wars Resistance is a prequel to The Force Awakens and follows Kazuda Xiono, aka Kaz, a young pilot for the Resistance. Kaz is tasked with a top-secret mission to investigate the First Order, a growing threat in the galaxy.

Focusing on the young fighter pilot, his new-found friends and mentor Jarek, Star Wars Resistance goes easy on the violence in favour of thrilling chase sequences and aerial antics.
