Music executive Nota Baloyi has been trending recently following his R1 million offer to rappers Cassper Nyovest and AKA, who is allegedly suing him for R500 000.

Five things to know about music mogul Nota Baloyi:

1. HE WAS KWESTA’S MANAGER

Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi is most famous for being the former manager and business partner of rapper Senzo Brikka Vilakazi popularly known as Kwesta.

However, Kwesta no longer associates himself with Nota Baloyi. This came after the music executive took to Twitter to express his thoughts on Nasty C’s single Zulu Man and Cassper Nyovest’s single Bonginkosi last year.

He called Nasty C’s single “corny” and accused Nyovest of using Zola 7 as a feature for clout.

“Ekse.. I need everyone to know that @lavidanota and I no longer work together and haven’t been for a while now,” wrote Kwesta on Twitter.

Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest are not the only rappers Baloyi has angered. AKA has allegedly sent the music executive a letter of demand for defamation claiming damages up to R500 000. This follows a thread of tweets posted by Baloyi that implied AKA was abusive to his late fiancee Anele “Nelli” Tembe who plunged to her death from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town on 11 April.

2. HE IS MARRIED TO SINGER BERITA

Nota Baloyi is married to Zimbabwean-born Afro soul singer Gugulethu Khumalo, professionally known as Berita. The pair got married last year therefore had to have an intimate lockdown wedding.

3. HE IS THE DIRECTOR OF THE ORCHARD

According to his LinkedIn account, Nota Baloyi is the director at The Orchard which is  a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment and the managing director at SoFet Urbantainment.

4. HE HAS BIG ‘MONEY TALKS’

Nota Baloyi offered AKA and Cassper Nyovest R1 million each to do a joint album; however, the rappers did not accept his offer.

The music executive revealed he still has that money on the table to offer two other rappers to collaborate via his Instagram account. He asked his 26 100 followers for suggestions.

5. HE HAS BEEN ARRESTED

According to his Instagram, Baloyi was “wrongfully and unlawfully” arrested for reckless driving in his complex on 31 March 2021. He was later bailed out by his lawyer.

In his Instagram post he also stated that he was assaulted by police officers in front of his mother, wife and neighbours who pleaded with them to stop.
