Thuli Madonsela is one of seven women who will judge the Miss SA pageant on Saturday 13 August at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria. Madonsela was the Public Protector of South Africa between 2009 and 2016 and is currently a professor of law at Stellenbosch University.

Taking to Twitter on 1 August, Madonsela said it was an “absolute honour and delight” to be part of the judging panel.

“The talent and leadership pool among the Miss SA 2022 contestants inspires hope for our country and our troubled world. It reminds me of Charlotte Maxeke’s quote about the beauty of the heart.”

After Thuli Madonsela’s addition was announced, the former Public Protector quickly shot to the top of Twitter’s trending list leaving tweeps divided.

“How do you expect a person who has Twitter wars with her daughter to positively influence a young woman’s future?” questioned one tweep.

“Congratulations professor Thuli Madonsela, ignore the noise. The dogs will always bark,” wrote another tweep.

“We already know who will be the next Miss SA. she loves those ones more than her own.”
