Rapper Priddy Ugly topped the Twitter trends list on Monday 6 June after fans fiercely defended him against shade thrown at him by controversial entertainment commentator Musa Khawula.

Musa once again got tongues wagging with his commentary about Mzansi’s celebs when he fired shots at Priddy Ugly.

Priddy Ugly fans label Musa a ‘bully’

The debacle started after Musa shared a picture of Priddy Ugly’s wife and well-known dancer, Bontle Modiselle, enjoying a day out with their little one at Disney Africa’s Alice in Wonderland enchanted theme event last weekend with a caption that fans lambasted him for.

“Struggling rapper’s wife Bontle Modiselle with Reason’s ex-girlfriend and baby mama Lootlove photographed by Austin Malema,” read the tweet.

Priddy Ugly’s fans were not impressed with Musa and headed to Twitter to let him know, with some even labelling him a bully. This resulted in Priddy Ugly’s name trending at number one on the SA trends list since Monday this week.

Here are some of the reactions:

Priddy Ugly’s album hit the mark with fans

It’s no secret that Priddy Ugly has been labelled as one of Mzansi’s most “underrated” rappers and he proved that when he released his album SOIL in July 2021.

Fans were living for the 10-track album which was mixed and mastered by award-winning producer Zoocci Coke Dope.

At the time, the rapper described his album SOIL as a “true look into my reflection” in an instagram post.

“Working on this project has been nothing short of inspiring & life changing.. In the process of working on it, we dived into depths very few witness & soared into heights seldom reached. I’m grateful to my team, & every single person that left a piece of their soul on this canvas. This is the start of a revolution in RAP music on the continent & a reset in its culture. This album journals the journey of what being a young, black family man in Africa in this period encompasses,” said at the time.

Bontle jumps to Priddy Ugly’s defence

Priddy Ugly — who is notoriously private — has decided to blue-tick the fiasco involving him.

On several occasions in the past, Bontle has also jumped to her man’s defence. In March last year, she tackled people who labelled the rapper’s music “whack”.

“I guarantee you the ones with the most to say about Priddy Ugly have heard the least. He’s whack? On the basis of what? A lot of you ride that wave because it’s cooler or safer to do. Herd mentality gripped you by the balls. So how can we take anything you say seriously?” Bontle wrote at the time.
