Springbok boss Rassie Erasmus has shared a look at his gruesome chemical burns sustained during a “freak accident” last month.

And while the graphic images have shocked the public, it’s clear the injury has not kept the national hero down.

SA Rugby confirmed that the director would be out of action for weeks. However, they are confident he will be back in action long before the Springboks take on rivals Ireland in Pretoria on 6 July.

RASSIE ERASMUS POSTS GRAPHIC INJURY PICS

Over the weekend, Rassie Erasmus shared pics of his chemical burn injury that landed him in the hospital last month.

The 51-year-old tweeted that his serious wounds had stopped him from attending a netball match in which his twin daughters Carlie and Nikki had played.

He tweeted in Afrikaans: “Wens ek kon daar wees. Amper gesond [Wish I could be there…almost better].”

In the pics, Rassie revealed how he had received skin grafting for his right arm and torso, which were covered in red, raw burns. In another set of pics, the Springboks coach revealed how the wounds were healing, with blistering scabs developing on them.

Naturally, followers of the sports star were shocked and concerned about what they saw. Others used the opportunity to banter the “national treasure.”

Is this what happens when you get too close to the bomb squad?” asked one tweep. Another joked: “When I read the Spider-Man comics, this is exactly how they get their superhero powers.”

A third: “Whatever you wanted to clean is surely dead now.”
