Is it road-legal?: R18 million Ferrari 599 GTO spotted in Durban [watch]

Several exotic cars were spotted during the Easter weekend, and South Africa boasts some of the world’s most sought-after cars, from a Ferrari 488 Pista Spider to a Ferrari 599 GTO.

Social media was abuzz after a Ferrari 599 Grand Turismo Omologato was spotted in Durban over the weekend.

However, photos and videos of the car are making rounds on social media. Famous car spotter Supercar Box captioned the videos, “And in front of the police. The 599 GTO is an absolute lunatic…Thank you, Ferrari, for creating such a legend!”

However, Mzansi has been trying to connect the dots about the trending 599 GTO owner and its price tag. After all, who could be the owner of the sleek Ferrari? The 599 GTO is rare, with only 599 units on the market with 125 units in the US.

Surprisingly, dealerships in South Africa don’t have the Ferrari 599 GTO on sale. Most GTO acquisitions are done through auction. Five Ferrari 599 GTOs have been listed for sale this year on Classic.com. Three already have new owners. R15 million was the lowest price tag 22 days ago.

However, the other two are still available for purchase. One of the listed cars has no price tag, while the other has a price tag of $999 900, which amounts to R18.8 million.

WHY IS THE FERRARI 599 GTO RARE?

However, despite having 599 units on the market, the Ferrari GTO is one of the fastest cars from the 599 line, which is road-legal. It is the legal road version of the famous 599XX track car.

The Ferrari 599 GTO is one of the fastest Ferraris and one second faster than the Ferrari Enzo. Ferrari claims it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in less than 3.3 seconds. It boasts a top speed of 335km/h. However, two other models of the Ferrari GTO include the 1962 250 GTO and the 1984 GTO.
