Singer Lira has rubbished reports that she has become a member of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party. This was after she was linked to the party, spearheaded by Jacob Zuma, in a video posted on social media.

Bizarrely, the video in question features a “lookalike” of the award-winning star.

Lira recently reflected on the second anniversary of her surviving a stroke. The condition affected her ability to speak, read and write.

LIRA RUBBISHES VIRAL MK PARTY POSTER

In a tweet posted on her official X platform, Lira shot down any insinuation that she had joined uMkhonto weSizwe, also known as the MK Party.

The 45-year-old posted a screenshot of a YouTube video and tweet that boldly proclaimed her political affiliations.

The tweet  – posted by @mokwala_dimpho – read: “Lira is officially an MKP member in good standing.”

Clapping back, Lira tweeted: “I wish to confirm that I have no affiliation with MK Party. I have not endorsed them or become an MKP member.

“Any information to the contrary is fake news and I am exploring my legal options about the unlawful use of my image and name”.

Bizarrely, the woman in the video is not, in fact, Lira. In the original video, posted on the MK Youth Party’s TikTok account, actress and poet Londiwe Ngcamu is credited as the female in question.

In the video, Londiwe bears a striking resemblance to Lira in both appearance and voice.

CELEBRITY SUPPORTERS OF JACOB ZUMA

While Lira has distanced herself from Jacob Zuma’s MK Party, another celebrity has seemingly shown his allegiance to the former president.

Former Moja Love presenter Xolani Khumalo was spotted with Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, in a pic posted on her X account.

According to Kaya FM, other stars who’ve previously shown support to the now 82-year-old include Brenda Mtambo, L’vovo Derrango, and the late AKA.

Zuma was previously served a 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court in his corruption case.

Despite his ailing health and criminal history, the MK Party has insisted that Zuma will front their party in the presidential elections in May.

Chairperson Jabulani Khumalo told EWN: “Zuma is going to be the president, there is no case against Zuma. They have been trying for years to put him in jail. They failed because he is a straightforward man. Zuma will be the president whether they like it or not.”

Khumalo’s claims come amid reports that the ANC failed in its bid to deregister the political party. The ruling party alleged that their opposition had not met the official registration criteria.
