Springbok Bongi Mbonambi has taken a shot at the England rugby team and player Tom Curry in his first interview after being accused of making a racial slur.

During the Rugby World Cup last month, the South African rugby star was accused of calling his British rugby rival a “white c**t” during a game.

But while many have put it down to being lost in translation, Bongi claims that both England and Curry should’ve known and done better.

BONGI MBONAMBI BREAKS SILENCE

Although Bongi Mbonambi was cleared of any wrongdoings by World Rugby, he still faced the condemnation of the England rugby team, who stood their ground.

Doubling down on the attacks were the UK media and rugby supporters who continue to taunt the Springbok star.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the 33-year-old denied any wrongdoing, insisting the words Tom Curry heard were actually in Afrikaans.

Bongi also claimed he had expected better from a “first-world country.”

He said: “I think it is a very sad thing when you live in a first world country [England], you think the rest of the world speaks English.

“It was unprofessional on their part. They could have gone on a website and looked for an English dictionary and looked for the word in Afrikaans.

He added: “People understood [in South Africa], but obviously their side was misunderstood.”

A WELL-DESERVED BREAK

Meanwhile, Bongi Mbonambi has revealed he is happy to leave the incident “in the past” and continue with his rugby career.

The hooker will return to his club, of The Sharks, in KwaZulu-Natal after a mandatory three-week rest, claims Rugby365.

According to the publication, the trophy tour counted as the first week. Players now have two weeks to rest before rejoining their franchises.
