Springboks scrum-half Faf de Klerk’s wife, Miné, might not always be in the public eye but she has kept us updated on the couple’s first year of marriage through social media posts.

They say the first year of marriage is crucial for the well-being of a couple. Once the initial euphoria of being newlyweds settles in, the first year can teach you a lot about your partner and yourself. A year after their lavish Paris Estate Ceremony, Faf and Miné appear to be going stronger than ever.
MINÉ AND FAF DE KLERK ONE YEAR STRONGER
Holding the title of “Faf de Klerk’s Wife” and being married to a professional athlete who spends months away from home at a time comes with its challenges. However, Miné, it’s comfortable territory.

The 30-year-old pharmacist is no stranger to the life and demands of being with a rugby player, having dated the two-time World Cup winner for years before they tied the knot in 2022. The couple celebrated their first anniversary right at the beginning of the 2023 World Cup in October 2023, a year after they became Mr and Mrs Faf De Klerk.
Although they’ve spent a significant portion of the last 12 months apart, (Faf plays his club rugby in Japan), the moments they’ve spent together have proven to be all the more meaningful.

DISTANCE MAKES THE HEART STRONGER
Although there’s no question of how much Miné and Faf de Klerk love one another, one of the biggest challenges they’ve faced in their relationship has been the distance between them during the rugby season. Playing and working in Japan means that Faf is often not just miles away, but several hours from his partner too.

Miné herself has a busy career working as a pharmacist for Pro-Med Pharmacy in the Northern Cape. In 2021 she famously admitted to Huisgenoot, “We are so good when we are together, but the long distance makes it difficult,”. Despite this, Miné and Faf De Klerk’s love is proof that with equal amounts of patience and effort (and, let’s be honest, budget!) long-distance relationships, like any relationship, can find their way to a happy ending!
