Springbok Bongi Mbonambi has thanked his wife Stacy for having his back throughout his career and recent controversial allegations.

Behind every successful man – in this case, Springbok Bongi Mbonambi – is a strong woman. And her name is Anastacia, or simply Stacy.

The Rugby World Cup-winning champion has heaped praise on his better half, whom he claims is the “true champion in the family.”

Bongi’s appreciation post comes shortly after an interview in which he denied allegations he said a racial slur to England rugby player Tom Curry last month.

BONGI MBONAMBI SHOWS LOVE TO WIFE

In an Instagram post, Bongi Mbonambi thanked South Africans for supporting him at the Rugby World Cup, and through recent allegations he made a racist statement.

But Bongi – who plays for The Sharks – was most thankful for the support of his wife Stacy, whom he wed in 2017.

He posted: “Here is to my beautiful wife, the true champion of the family. Thank you for being an amazing wife and an awesome mom.

“You have seen me at my best and at my worst, and still, you are always by my side.”

In the comment section, Stacy – a professional make-up artist – responded: “Love you, my hubby. So proud of you”.

HAPPY TO MOVE ON

Meanwhile, Bongi Mbonambi has told BBC Sport that he is happy to leave the Tom Curry incident “in the past” and continue with his rugby career.

In his interview, Bongi denied the allegations levelled against him by England rugby, insisting it was merely a case of being “lost in translation”.

The hooker will return to his club, The Sharks, in KwaZulu-Natal after a mandatory three-week rest, claims Rugby365.

According to the publication, the Rugby World Cup trophy tour counted as the first week. Players now have two weeks to rest before rejoining their franchises.

Bongi – who renewed his contract with The Sharks until 2026 – will be up for squad selection from 24 November.
