During a recent radio interview, as seen in an X (formally known as Twitter) video, Police Minister Bheki Cele revealed the latest updates regarding AKA – real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes’ murder case.

CRACKING THE CASE: BHEKI CELE ON AKA’S MURDER CASE

Award-winning South African rapper AKA was shot and killed alongside his friend, celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, on 10 February in Florida Road, Durban. It has been just over ten months since the duo was killed, and no arrests have been made, however, the police minister had previously shared that he and the police were close to cracking the case.

During the radio interview, Cele revealed that the people behind the successful plot to kill AKA were part of Inkabi (assassins/hitmen), and some were the late rapper’s associates. He also revealed that two witnesses who have helped with the case are being kept safe.

“They have found two people. That I know for sure. Those people have been kept very safe because they know very well what happened that particular day,” Cele said.

He then said that the two witnesses gave information to the police, which helped them to locate the gun and cars that were used, leading to the moment the slain rapper was killed.

“Those two guys must be kept very safe because they know what on that particular day and the networks that led to that unfortunate murder of AKA,” the minister said.

MORE ABOUT THE MURDER INVESTIGATION

According to ZiMoja, during a briefing that took place in September at the Tshedimosetso House in Hatfield in Tshwane, Police Minister Bheki Cele said, “The cars have been found, people have been identified, and even the firearm used” on the night AKA was killed were found.

“We would request that police are given the space and themselves must resist the push that might end up breaking their case even before they achieve the proper investigation,” Cele was quoted as saying.

AKA was buried in Westpark Cemetery, Randburg on 18 February. Meanwhile, Tibz’s memorial service was held on 16 February at Sacred Heart College in Observatory, Johannesburg, and he was laid to rest in a private funeral.
