A song for the Springboks: WAGS record RWC anthem [watch]

Anlia Star – the wife of Eben Etzebeth – and Karlien van Jaarsveld – the ex-wife of Derick Hougaard, have banded together for a special song for the Springboks ahead of the Rugby World Cup this month.

The WAGS recorded a song with fellow Afrikaans singers Ruan du Toit and Robbie Wessels, which will be released on Friday, 8 September.

Friday also marks the kick-off of the World Cup, with South Africa playing its first match against Scotland on Sunday.

ANLIA WRITES SONG FOR SPRINGBOKS

In the Rugby World Cup lead-up, Anlia Etzebeth teased a new song about the Springboks. Eben’s wife roped in Karlien van Jaarsveld, a former Springboks WAG.

Although Karlien split from her husband, Derick Hougaard, in 2015, she later married another rugby player, Joe Breytenbach.

In a video posted on Instagram, Anlia revealed that the song was inspired by the “spirit” of rugby and SA’s love for the sport.

“In our house, it’s all we talk about,” she said.

The song will officially be released on Friday on all streaming platforms.

MORE RUGBY ANTHEMS

Anlia Etzebeth’s song is not the only Springboks anthem we will be singing at the top of our lungs come this Sunday.

Beloved entertainer Leon Schuster has also released a track called Bokmasjien. And Sister Bethina hitmaker Mgarimbe has released a cover of his popular song called Sister Bokkina or Amabokoboko.
