Three arrested in mob attack on suspected killer of pregnant teen

Three individuals have been apprehended following an incident where a mob set fire to a man believed to be responsible for the death of his 15-year-old pregnant girlfriend.

Three suspected killers arrested in mob attack

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani, the man allegedly assaulted and killed the woman at his residence last month.

 He purportedly then wrapped her body in a blanket and abandoned it in the shack.

The woman’s mother became concerned when her daughter failed to visit her as usual. 

Aware of her daughter’s pregnancy, she decided to check on her. It was then that she made the horrifying discovery of her daughter’s lifeless body.

According to The Citizen, community members allegedly searched for the boyfriend and eventually located him working in the vicinity.

They escorted him back to his residence, where they purportedly subjected him to physical assault, poured paraffin over him, and set him on fire.

He was swiftly transported to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Following several weeks of investigations, the police apprehended three suspects, aged between 22 and 40, last Friday.

Funani mentioned that additional arrests are probable in the ongoing investigation.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena urged communities to refrain from resorting to vigilante justice and instead rely on legal processes.

Authorities investigate tragic Eastern Cape shooting amid no arrests yet

Police encourage individuals with information regarding the incident to step forward and aid in the ongoing investigations.

Authorities have not yet apprehended the individuals responsible for the tragic deaths of seven individuals in Nxanxashe, near Willowvale, Eastern Cape, which occurred on Sunday morning.

the province’s Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit is actively investigating the incident, with no arrests made thus far. Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene appealed to anyone possessing information about the murders to cooperate with authorities and aid in the investigation.

“The team of experienced detectives will be working tirelessly to uncover the truth behind these senseless killings. We are committed to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure a thorough and swift investigation,” he said.

“Such level of violence has no place in our society, and we must unite to combat such heinous crimes,” added Mene.

In recent developments, five individuals have been given various sentences after being convicted of a four-year crime. 

The incident involved the stoning death of Constable Mzuvukile Emanuel Hlahlenyi by the five family members. 

The altercation occurred following a dispute with his girlfriend in Khayelitsha in 2020.
