South African television producer and director Legend Manqele has addressed claims that he stole another show via a tweet on Thursday 30 September.

DID LEGEND STEAL A SHOW?

Legend Manqele’s response was prompted by a Sunday World report which claimed that Khuzani Mpungose’s reality show was “hijacked” from Musa Buthelezi.

Musa Buthelezi is a KwaZulu-Natal-based producer, who claimed that Legend Manqele “hijacked” Mpungose’s show from him and sold it to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) without his consent.

He told the publication that he and his colleague Thuli Zulu met Mpungose in Umhlanga in 2017 to seek his permission to film a reality show supposedly titled Khuzani The Maskandi King

He went on to say that he was shocked to hear that Legend Manqele was credited as producer for the show. However, the Living the Dream With Somizi producer rubbished the claims made against him via a tweet.

LEGEND MANQELE: ‘I’VE NEVER STOLEN A SHOW IN MY LIFE’

The producer took to Twitter to clear up the allegations and other allegations made against him. In the tweet he attached screenshots of two articles by Sunday World to confirm which claims he was addressing.

Legend Manqele took to Twitter to states the following three things,

  • He has never leaked anything to anyone or any media platform.
  • He has never stolen a show in my life.
  • He will not give up.

However, Mpungose’s manager, Mthokozisi Zuma, said that although Buthelezi was the first to approach them with the concept of the show, they later worked with Manqele because Buthelzi failed to meet the deadlines he was given to produce the show.

His remark about not “leaking” anything to anyone or the media is most likely a response to the speculation that he leaked “Mohale’s confessions”. In August, confidential audio clips between Legend and Somizi’s estranged husband, Mohale Motaung were leaked to Sunday World.

The audio clips contained many bombshell revelations which included abuse allegations, cheating confessions and more from Mohale Motaung.

‘DINNER AT SOMIZI’S’ DRAMA

This is not the first time the Living the Dream With Somizi producer was accused of stealing a show. In 2020, a man named Hastings Moeng claimed that the concept of Somizi’s cooking show, Dinner At Somizi’s, was his idea.

He took legal action against both Somizi Mhlongo and Manqele. The matter however has since remained unresolved.
