When it comes to being outspoken about South African politics – particularly EFF’s Julius Malema – the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree for Steve Hofmeyr’s son Devon.

The young singer – Steve’s firstborn son – led a group of  Afrikaaner men called the “Bittereinders” this week in a bid to confront Malema. This, over a viral video of the EFF leader singing the controversial struggle song Kill The Boer.

Devon is Steve’s second child, whom he welcomed with ex Noline Fourie in 1992.

“Come kill us now”, he was heard yelling at security, who refused to let the group in.

At the time, Malema was addressing members of the media inside the building.

The confrontation turned into a physical clash, with Devon claiming several of his friends had been “assaulted” by EFF members. The group retreated after a heated exchange of words.

Devon later shared a Facebook post praising the men.

He shared: “11 men today protected a promise made in 1838. I salute each one of you. You did today what very few men will ever be willing to do”.

11 manne het vandag n gelofte wat in 1838 afgelê is, beskerm. Ek salueer elkeen van julle. Julle het vandag gedoen wat bitter min manne ooit bereid sal wees om te doen. Julle is werklik Bittereinders 🔥

It’s not the first time Devon has gone head-to-head with the EFF. Last year, the party laid charges of incitement of violence against the singer.

This following social media posts, and even a physical clash with members after the EFF visited the public school, Hoerskool Jan Viljoen.  In February 2022, the EFF stormed the school, where they replaced a picture of Jan Viljoen with President Cyril Ramaphosa.

According to the EFF, Devon strongly opposed this action.

EFF Chairperson of the West Rand region, Tumi Molusi told The Star: “Even students know that he [Devon] is racist because of the things he posts on Facebook. One thing we will not do is tolerate racism”.
