The days are much warmer now and those bananas are getting overripe in the fruit bowl, aren’t they? You know what you have to do now, don’t you? It’s time to make some banana bread for everybody. Banana bread is a treat that everybody can enjoy and provides a great platform for other ingredients. Banana bread is a simple recipe passed down to the family and brings back those memories of making it with your grandma. Maybe you’ve just always wanted to try it and now is your chance.

When your bananas start showing those dark spots all over, you know it’s the right time to do make banana bread. It’s a very simple recipe but gives you a chance to get creative. You can even add some almonds or cinnamon to it. You can have banana bread for breakfast with fruit and whipped cream. You can have it as a snack with some good ol’ butter or you can get up at midnight and have a snack straight from the fridge. Double-up on banana and have slices of banana and peanut butter on there after a run.

The best banana bread recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 250 grams butter

  • 5  ripe bananas

  • 3 eggs

  • 10 ml vanilla essence

  • 4 cups flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 cup milk

Method

  • Beat the soft butter, sugar and bananas well.
  • Dissolve the baking soda in the milk.
  • Add the dry ingredients and add the milk mixture.
  • Divide the batter into 2 or 3 medium size bread baking tins.
  • Bake at 180 degrees for 40 minutes until brown.
