‘Scam of a man’: Oscar Mbo refunds events organiser R18k after no-show

‘He blocked my calls’: Oscar Mbo has refunded an events organiser R18 000 that was paid to him in advance after he was a no-show at a gig.

On Thursday 27 January, DJ Archie caused a stir on social media after claiming house DJ, Oscar Mbo refused to refund him for a gig he did not pitch for. Taking to Twitter, Archie claimed Mbo was paid for the gig in advance but was blocking his calls regarding the R18 000 refund. Tweeps labelled Oscar Mbo a “scammer” after DJ Archie’s tweets.

After the house DJ trended on Twitter, DJ Archie told TshisaLive that he had received the refund.

OSCAR MBO VS DJ ARCHIE 

According to TshisaLive, DJ Archie booked Oscar Mbo to perform at a gig on 28 December 2021. Archie paid the house DJ R18 000 in advance as per their “agreement”. The popular house DJ did not pitch for the gig and according to Archie, he did not return the money. 

In a now-deleted tweet, Archie wrote: “I paid them the full amount according to our agreement. Okay, Oscar didn’t pitch on (the day of the event), 28 December. I am still waiting for a refund even now. He blocked my calls and his manager is not taking my calls. I need a refund.”

Archie had also shared screenshots of communication between him and the house producer. He further claimed the house DJ was blocking his calls and his manager was not answering his phone. 

THE REFUND 

Taking to Twitter on Thursday 27 January, DJ Archie confirmed that Oscar Mbo paid back the funds in full. 

“They just refunded me, Thank you for the comments and making sure this trends,.” 

Speaking to TshisaLive, Archie said Oscar Mbo’s camp sent him proof of payment but he was also required to remove his previous posts. 

“[They] told me I should remove the post and also post about the refund as I had posted about them not refunding me.”

TWEEPS WEIGH IN 

Tweeps weighed in with some claiming Oscar Mbo was a “scammer”. Others questioned how the publicity would affect his brand.

“Oscar Mbo deactivated his Twitter account and blocked comments on Instagram damn what a scammer.” 

“Never like this Oscar Mbo from the beginning. They just confirmed how I always felt about this scam of a man.”
