‘Donda 2’: Kanye working on a ‘more monk-like’ sequel… [listen]

‘If it cannot be played at a funeral, childbirth, graduation, a wedding, it will not be on our record’: says a producer on Ye’s ‘Donda 2’.

A month after its release, Kanye West’s long-awaited Donda hit one billion streams on Spotify. The Grammy award-winning rapper is set to release the sequel, Donda 2 on 22 February 2022 and has enlisted the help of five producers. 

One of the five producers, Digital Nas told Rolling Stone that Kanye gave him a few notes for the album. The rapper wants Donda 2 to sound “more monk-like” and says if the songs can’t be played at funerals, childbirth, graduation, or a wedding, it won’t be on the album.

KANYE WEST’S ‘DONDA’

After three listening sessions and a few teasers, Kanye West officially released his 10th studio album Donda on Sunday 29 August 2021. The 27-track album has several A-list features including The Weeknd, Jay-Z, Francis and the Lights, Young Thug, Roddy Rich and popstar Ariana Grande. 

Shortly after the album’s release, Kanye caused quite the stir on Instagram, claiming that Universal Music released the album without his approval but later removed the post.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ‘DONDA 2’

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Digital Nas said Kanye gave him two notes for Donda 2. For the album to sound “more monk-like and to “simplify” the tracks. 

“If it cannot be played at a funeral, childbirth, graduation, a wedding, it will not be on our record,” added Nas on Kanye’s requests. 

Other producers on the album include Mike Dean, DJ Premier, DJ Khaled and Future.

SIGNIFICANCE BEHIND ‘DONDA 2’ RELEASE DATE

Taking to Instagram to share the release date for Donda 2, which is set for 22 February 2022, the rapper posted an Instagram story explaining the significance of the date.

As per Hypebeast, the story read: “According to the stars, the United States is finally getting a spiritual makeover with its first-ever Pluto Return on 22 February 2022. Astrologically, a Pluto Return is when the heavenly body returns to the same position in a birth chart where it was when the chart began.”
