eMedia Investments proudly announced that it will be the new home of Devi Sankaree Govender, who will be hosting her new talk show, aptly name Devi.

Devi is most renowned as a straight-talking hard-hitting journalist for Carte Blanche. She has been with the show for 27 years.

We are used to watching her make crooked business owners squirm under the weight of her honest and direct questioning, in her pursuit for the truth, and for justice for wronged consumers.

She will undoubtedly use this same straight-shooting approach whilst interviewing guests on her own show.

When she was asked about this new show, she commented, “The pandemic has created panic and negativity. This show isn’t going to add to the gloom. Instead, my team and I are creating 30 minutes of in-your-face Friday night television. You will be outraged. You will laugh. You will be inspired while we keep it very real.”

Who is Devi?

Devi hails from Umzinto on the South Coast and started her career as a journalist when she was only 21.

While completing a BA degree at the University of Natal in Durban, she landed a freelance position at SABC Radio. She then rapidly moved from presenting music shows and reading the news, to becoming a talk show host for national public broadcaster, Lotus FM.

She then continued jumping from TV to radio broadcasting, even interviewing President Nelson Mandela and finally getting her major break on Carte Blanche in January of 2002.

She is most well-known for her time on Carte Blanche where her fearless approach got her into some trouble through the years. Although she has been assaulted and even locked up, but none of this has stopped her in her pursuit for the truth.

eMedia Investments COO Antonio Lee had this to say about her joining the studio: “We are delighted to welcome Devi to the eMedia family and look forward to the dynamism she brings. Devi remains one of the country’s most accomplished journalists and presenters. She will add great value to an already strong line-up on both e.tv and eNCA.”

Other than her new Talk show Devi, she will also be working on other projects for the eMedia group.

We look forward to seeing her delve into the lives of the extraordinary guests that she will be interviewing, with her unique sense of humour and direct approach.

Devi airs every Friday night, premiering on e.tv at 18:30 on 12 June and eNCA at 20:30.
