Amazon confirmed that a Lord of the Rings series was in the works more than three years ago. The series is one of Amazon’s most anticipated original series and some interesting details have been revealed, including a sneak peek into the new world of the Lord of the Rings

‘LORD OF THE RINGS’ SYNOPSIS

The synopsis for the upcoming series was confirmed by Theonering. According to the synopsis, the exciting drama series is set thousands of years before JRR Tolkien’s famous books, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings

“[The series] will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.”

FIRST-LOOK

According to Theonering, there will be five seasons of the Lord of the Rings series, with eight to 10 episodes per season. Filming for the first season of the series was completed on 2 August in New Zealand. Theonering also reports that filming for the second season is soon to be underway.

The series’ budget is around $465 million which equates to just about R7 billion. Comparing this massive budget to Game of Thrones, it’s safe to say that Game of Thrones certainly doesn’t match up.

The Game of Thrones budget was only $15 million (R215 million) per episode.

The series will officially premiere on 22 September 2022 in 240 countries. The series will be available to South Africans on Amazon Prime video.

The first official image for the television series was released by Amazon along with the release date.

‘LORD OF THE RINGS’ CAST

The television series promises a stellar cast. The series will feature American actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson, English actor Maxim Alexander Baldry, Ian Blackburn and Kip Chapman.
