Three policewomen – aged between 26 and 32 – were admitted to hospital after being shot by a group of robbers at a mall in Nyanga, Cape Town, on Monday morning at approximately 8:00. The suspects, believed to be a group of six people or more, allegedly robbed a retail store at the mall and encountered a marked South African Police Service (SAPS) vehicle in the parking lot as they ran from the store. “In a bid to evade arrest, the suspects fired several shots at the members, wounding three female constables and narrowly missing the male constable who was the driver,” said police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut.
