Rietgat SAPS collaborated with Honeydew and Cosmo City police officers, on Wednesday 5 April, to apprehend eight suspected online scammers, who are also linked to an armed robbery and the murder of a police officer, following a tip from a community member. The suspects were arrested in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.

According to reports, the online scammers terrorised innocent customers looking for vehicles and goods on Facebook Market Place and Gumtree. They would post pictures of vehicles for sale on social media, luring potential buyers to an isolated location where they would pounce in numbers and steal their belongings and money meant to purchase these “vehicles.”
