It has been two weeks since a gas explosion ripped through Lillian Ngoyi Street (formerly Bree Street) and since then there has been widespread speculation as to what could have caused the blast. Egoli Gas quickly came out and ruled themselves out, siting that their lines are all in tact. However a team of specialists have ruled what certainly did not cause the explosion. Zama zama’s and the illegal mining industry has been behind a few major incidences around Gauteng including a gas leak that killed 16 people in Boksburg last month as well as sinkholes have been spotted on Johannesburg roads. However, terrorism, zama zama’s, cable theft and foul play were not the cause of the explosion.
