Watch: US Netflix show pokes fun at Afrikaans in 7de Laan breakdown [video]

Eish, Americans don’t seem to enjoy understanding things that are different to what they’re used to. This American Netflix show host somehow found out about 7de Laan.

Afrikaans

South Africans are almost all well aware of 7de Laan and the widely spoken language of Afrikaans. American TV show hosts on the other hand? We’re sure you can guess that they don’t have a single clue.

One sharp South African Netflix subscriber was clearly enjoying some Netflix and chill when he came to the US discovery. To understand the picking out of 7de Laan, we first need to understand what exactly this Netflix show does.

“The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale (It really is called that) is a new, weekly half-hour topical series that takes a sharp, absurdist look at pop culture and news from across the globe. It’s a fast and funny distillation of everything people are talking about that week.”

Some of us may remember Joel McHale from the much-loved show Community? If not, trust us when we say he is usually funny just not so much this time, maybe?

For one of the recent episodes of the Joel Mchale Show, the host and his producers went after the Afrikaans word “kind”. To South Africans, a normal word for child. To These Americans? Boy, they really did have a different interpretation.

Where they grasping at straws here or does it really sound as bad as they think? (Warning: some very strong language ahead)

Of course, South Africans on Twitter were quick to chime in with their reactions too.

If you want to see Joel McHale make fun of otherworldly things, then be sure to check out the show on Netflix. If you can’t stand him so far, do what the rest of the world is doing regarding America: Blame Trump…
