This iPhone 11 key feature could soon come to Samsung Galaxy phones

The current Samsung Galaxy flagship models shipped with Slow Motion modes for their primary camera, enabling video recording at up to 960fps.

With the beta of for One UI 2 out, we’ll now have a better idea of what will and won’t be heading to Samsung phones soon.

Interestingly one of the features on the horizon for the Samsung flagships will be Apple’s “Slofies”. One UI 2 is basically the Samsung specific bits that end up on top of your Android phone.

While I’m still not convinced that slow-motion selfies are a thing that needs to exist in the world, the team at Samsung have decided that they need to have it.

Slow motion selfies for Android 10

The current Samsung Galaxy flagship models shipped with Slow Motion modes for their primary camera enabling video recording at up to 960fps.

However, it seems that with a bit of software tweaking they’ll be able to offer slow-motion selfies, obviously with less fps for the front camera, as part of the latest version of UI 2 for Android 10.

So, will the world be a better place when we’re able to take slow-motion videos with our front-facing cameras? Most likely we’ll see a few people do some amazing creative thing with the ‘Slofie’ option.

Creative avenues to explore

We’ll be blown away by how creative they are and how the Slofie set their creativity free to create some new piece of art that makes the world a better, more fun place.

Except, am I being overly cynically for thinking that other than those few creative types, the Slofie will probably suck. I see a future of slow-motion hair flips, winking and pouty faces.

And I’m not judging here. That’s the first thing I did when I got my hands on the iPhone 11 Pro: I did a slow-motion hair flip. I’m not good at it either.

That said, nobody wants to see those things in their social feed in normal speed. As a public service announcement, slow motion doesn’t make everything better.

While there’s hope that the Slofie movement could bring us the slow-motion face yoga channel we’ve always dreamt of more likely, this is either going to be a damp squib that no one uses; or a feature the rest of just wished no one used, like all those animal face filters.

When will Slofie for Samsung be released?

The One UI 2 beta hasn’t rolled out to everyone, so don’t make your slow-motion Baywatch run to your phone just yet. We should be seeing it out in the wild for the Galaxy S11 and Note 11 in the next few months.

The rivalry between Apple and Samsung has been on the back burner to some extent due to the emergence of Huawei.

However, this is a somewhat unique case where Samsung has decided not just to copy competitors feature, but to do so as part of a software update after launch.
