We all know that Wayde van Niekerk is all sorts of wonderful.  If you can make Usian Bolt’s jaw drop, like our Van Niekerk did when he smashed the 400m World Record in Rio, then you’re pretty amazing.

Jaws probably didn’t drop quite as much this weekend, but Van Niekerk did smash another record.

At a meeting in Kingston, Jamaica, Van Niekerk took the half-lap win at the Racers Grand Prix in 19.84 to break the two-year-old mark of 19.87 held by Anaso Jobodwana.

Since breaking the 400m World Record, Van Niekerk announced he’s keen to take the shorter sprints more seriously and he’s well on course to do just that.

Watch the race below.

It was also a personal best for Van Niekerk.

“What a wonderful performance!” was the happy reaction of Aleck Skhosana, the President of Athletics South Africa.

“Looks like Wayde is on the roll here.

“Since announcing that he wants to contest the short sprints seriously this year, he has been on an onslaught. Clearly he is not where we all want him to be, but he is really doing very well.

“The exploits of Simbine cannot go unnoticed. His consistency has made everyone sit up and worry about what’s coming at the IAAF World Championships in August. Congratulations to all athletes and their coaches! Your hard work is coming together.”

Bolt’s jaw might not have dropped, but he did get to spend some quality time with our Wayde.

So much legend in one picture.
