Oscarine Masuluke may have lost out to Olivier Giroud for the FIFA Puskas award but he sure won admiration from one of the world’s best footballers – well, the world’s best footballer if the outcome of the FIFA Football Awards on Monday is anything to go by.

Real Madrid and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo gave credit to the 24-year Baroka FC goalkeeper when asked about his preferred choice for goal of the season, saying he’d choose him over the Arsenal forward who eventually took home the award.

The relatively unknown Masuluke came second for the award which was decided via public vote, getting 27.48% of the vote ahead of former Venezuelan Women’s teenage sensation Deyna Castellanos who got 20.47% total votes. The Frenchman clinched it with 36.17% of the vote.

Ronaldo himself walked away with the biggest award of the night, claiming the Ballon D’Or for the record fifth time in his career, edging out Leonel Messi and Paris Saint Germain’s Neymar.
