Daniil Medvedev wins three titles in three weeks

Daniil Medvedev has won his third title in as many weeks by beating compatriot Andrey Rublev in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

Russian-born Daniil Medvedev has won his third title in as many weeks by beating compatriot Andrey Rublev in the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships.

Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships

Medvedev handed Novak Djokovic his first loss of the year in the semi-final of the competition. This broke Djokovic’s 20-match winning streak.

This set up the final between Medvedev and Rublev. Both men were born in Moscow but have been flagless for over a year.

The final took just 86 minutes. Mevvedev who dropped only four games throughout the match took a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

A number of wins have cemented Medvedev as a hard court specialist. On 19 February he secured his spot in the top 10 by winning the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam.

Medvedev took on Jannik Sinner in the championship match. He won the final 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours and 29 minutes. This started off his winning streak.

Next, he took on the Qatar Open in Doha for the first time. He made his way to the final where he met Andy Murray on 25 February.

Murray had to battle to get to the final. He survived multiple match points, nine in fact. Three in his opening encounter, five in the semi-final, and one in the final. The former No. 1 has not won a championship since October 2019.

Daniil Medvedev won the Qatar Open in an hour and 46 minutes, 6-4, 6-4.
