Erik ten Hag is looking to release a total of 13 Manchester United players this summer in order to rebuild a competitive squad for next season.

Ten Hag was appointed a year ago and has transformed United in his first season in charge, with the Red Devils on course for a domestic double and a top-four finish in the Premier League.

United have already won the Carabao Cup earlier this year and are still in the hunt to lift the FA Cup.

Despite noticable improvements from last season, ten Hag knows they are still miles away from competing with the likes of Arsenal and City for the Premier League title.

This season alone, they were humiliated by both Manchester City and Liverpool which is why ten Hag still needs to reinforce the squad to compete not only in the league but Champions League should they qualify.

According to the Mirror, some of the players that might leave Old Trafford this summer includes Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams and Anthony Martial.

United captain Maguire has fallen behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the pecking order and has mostly featured from the bench under the new manager. He still has a year left in his contract but given the fact that regular left back Luke Shaw is slotted at centre-back ahead of Maguire tells you that the Dutch mentor doesn’t value the England international.

Wan-Bissaka is also struggling to get ahead of Diogo Dalot at right-back, but his recent games have impressed not only the manager but fans as well.

There’s also Anthony Elanga, who has failed to net a goal in 23 games this season. The winger enjoyed game-time under Ralf Rangnick a year ago but ten Hag has preferred Wout Weghorst and Antony to support Marcus Rashford upfront.
