Steve Komphela makes first signing as Swallows boss

Newly appointed Swallows boss Steve Komphela has just completed his first signing by bringing in midfielder Lantshene Phalane.

New Swallows boss Steve Komphela has completed his first signing after capturing midfielder Lantshene Phalane’s signature.

The experienced former Royal AM midfielder has been a free agent after seeing his relationship with the Thwihli Thwahla towards the end of last season.

Born in Limpopo and having previously played for Swallows between 2014 and 2015, the 33-year-old industrious left-footed midfielder has rejoined the Dube Birds.

KOMPHELA MAKES FIRST SIGNING AS SWALLOWS BOSS

Upon his appointment, the former Mamelodi Sundowns manager, Komphela promised to bring quality players to the Dube Birds nest and it seems he means business.

Swallows, per media reports and social media posts, have signed Phalane on a two-year deal as they look to avoid another relegation dogfight.

MIDFIELDER PHALANE LINKED WITH KAIZER CHIEFS

The South African previously reported that as Chiefs were looking to bolster their midfield personnel, they were chasing Phalane’s signature.

The hard-working midfielder parted ways with Shauwn Mkhize’s Royal AM and was said to be available to Chiefs on a free transfer should the club want to sign him, as per reports for Soccer-Laduma.

However, it seems Amakhosi failed to chase him and he has joined fellow Soweto giants, Swallows.

“Lantshene Phalane is one of the players that have been earmarked for a possible move to Chiefs for next season. The club’s head coach Arthur Zwane, is a big admirer of the player and a move would depend on whether Zwane is there or not next season, as well the parties being able to agree terms,” said a source to the same publication. Together with former Sundowns central defender, Ricardo Nascimento and ex-Bloemfontein Celtic teammate Tshepo Rikhotso, Phalane was released by the Durban-based side back in May.
