EXCL: Bartlett to decide Buchanan’s future at Spurs

Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett is the one to decide the future of midfielder Keagan Buchanan at Ikamva.

The latest word coming from the Cape Town Spurs camp is that coach Shaun Bartlett will decide ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Buchanan’s future.

The South African has been told that the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Buchanan has just arrived at Ikamva to train with the Premier Soccer League returnees.

According to an exclusive comment from the club’s public relations officer, Thabiso Mekuto, he confirmed that Buchanan is training with Spurs but his future remains undecided.

BARTLETT TO DECIDE BUCHANAN’S FUTURE

The seasoned PRO, Mekuto said it’s too early to decide if the former Chiefs, Maritzburg, and AmaZulu midfielder, Buchanan will sign on the dotted line.

Shooz said the coach and former Bafana Bafana striker, Bartlett will decide if he the club will offer a contract to the ex-Bloemfontein Celtic star.

“Yes, that is correct Keagan is here. He just arrived here yesterday (Wednesday) and it’s too early to decide if he will sign or not,” Mekuto told The South African.

“Shaun is the one to decide because he knows what he wants from the players.”

Having featured for Usuthu last season, the 31-year-old will hope to impress Bartlett and his technical bench as they aim to bolster their squad ahead of the return to the South African top flight.

BUCHANAN LOOKING FOR STABLE FUTURE SINCE LEAVING CELTIC

The South African reported that the former Amakhosi playmaker has struggled to secure a stable football home since leaving the now-defunct Phunya Sele Sele, Celtic.

Buchanan’s career looked stable while he was on the books of Celtic between 2013 and 2016 – perhaps played his best football there.

However, it started to take a nosedive as soon as he joined Chiefs in 2016 where made just 10 appearances over seasons due to injuries and loss of form.

The Team of Choice came to rescue his ailing career, however, that stint ended abruptly in January 2021 just before heading to KZN rivals, AmaZulu handed him a lifeline in July of that year.

As things stand, he might reunite with former Maritzburg teammates in Clayton Daniels and Nazeer Allie who are part of the Spurs setup.
