Salah set to miss two Afcon matches

Salah, who also plays for Liverpool, might not even participate further in the competition if Egypt get eliminated in the group stages.

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of the next two games at the African Cup of Nations with a hamstring injury.

The 31-year-old scored in Egypt’s first match but was forced to leave the pitch during his country’s second match against Ghana on Thursday.

“Tests on Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egypt national team, proved that he suffered a hamstring injury and will miss the next two matches of the team at the AFCON,” the Egyptian FA said in a statement.

Salah will sit out Monday’s final group game against Cape Verde.

After drawing their opening two games at the tournament, the Pharaohs have to win their match against Cape Verde to qualify for the last 16.

Mo Salah out for the next games, Egypt to survive?

Salah, who also plays for Liverpool, might not even participate further in the competition if Egypt get eliminated in the group stages.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said he was shocked by the striker’s injury.

“In the moment it was a shock. He(Salah) felt it and we all know how rarely Mo needs to go off so there was definitely something,” Klopp told reporters on Friday.

“I don’t have any more information right now. I spoke with him last night. They are doing further assessments and then we will know more.”

After the game Egypt coach Rui Vitoria said he hoped Salah’s injury was not a big problem.

“I think it’s not dangerous, but let’s see if Salah recovers.”
