A whopping R5.4 million will be on the line in the CAF African Schools Football Championship – the richest soccer in schools.

A whopping R5.4 million will be on the line for both the winners of the boys and girls competitions in the CAF African Schools Football Championship – a new school soccer event.
The school soccer event kicked off on Wednesday, 5 April and the final will be played on Saturday, 8 April.
The inaugural CAF African Schools Football Championship Final will be played at the King Zwelithini Stadium. The Motsepe Foundation has donated over a million US dollars in prize money for the school soccer tournament making it the richest school’s event on African soil.
The tournament will reach the globe via CAFTV (YouTube), SuperSport, FIFA+ and several other TV stations in Africa.

And there’s a lot on the line … the boys’ and girls’ competitions will each receive USD 300,000 (about R5.4 million). The runners-up will receive USD 200,000 (about R3.6 million) and the bronze medal winners will take home USD 150,000 (about R2.7 million).
The format has a twist with matches played on a ‘half pitch’ with only eight players. It helps speed things up with two games staged at once.
