Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala has opened up on the club’s ‘zebra’ kit which resulted in many fans mocking them.

Kaizer Chiefs have produced some iconic jerseys over the years however not all have been ‘hits’.

Some jerseys have drawn strong criticism from the club’s massive fan base as well as rival fans.

One jersey in particular was the club’s 2012 ‘zebra’ jersey however despite not being the most attractive Amakhosi kit, Siphiwe Tshabalala has revealed why it was his favourite one!

Bear in mine, ‘Shabba’ spent over a decade at Naturena clocking over 300 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs.

“So this is the most popular jersey that was launched in the 2012 season,” he told Khwezi as quoted by IDiskiTimes.

“A lot of people mocked Kaizer Chiefs for this, they even called us the zebras. But the significance of this kit, it brought success.

“We won the Nedbank Cup final in Moses Mabhida, and I grabbed an assist, so this is my favourite kit.”

In other news, former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach John Paintsil has landed a new coaching role with the Ghanaian national team.

Paintsil spent one season at Naturena, acting as Steve Komphela’s assistant coach between 2016 and 2017.

The 42 year old Ghanaian legend has since been roped in to help rebuild the Ghana men’s senior team.

He’ll act as an assistant coach to Black Stars coach Otto Addo alongside Fatawu Dauda and Joseph Laumann.

Former Chiefs coach lands national coaching role

“Black Stars coach Otto Addo has named two former players, John Paintsil and also Fatawu Dauda, alongside Joseph Laumann as assistant coaches,” 3News reported regarding the former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach.

Many Orlando Pirates fans will remember former goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda. Dauda represented the Buccaneers on three occasions between 2012 and 2013 and has been unveiled as the new Ghanaian goalkeeper coach.
