Will Khune appear on the bench for Kaizer Chiefs’ next match?

Khune was suspended by Kaizer Chiefs after he reportedly arrived for training while under the influence of alcohol in November.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune could return to action this weekend having reportedly served his suspension.

Soccer Laduma reports that the 36-year-old has begun training with the Amakhosi’s first team.

The 36-year-old was suspended after he reportedly arrived for training while under the influence of alcohol in November.

With the contract expected to expire in June, many were convinced that the star keeper might have played his last game for Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs lifts suspension on Itu Khune

Speaking to Sowetan earlier this month, Amakhosi boss Bobby Motaung said Khune’s suspension was still ongoing.

This week, however, it appeared as if the former Bafana Bafana star was back in the Kaizer Chiefs team.

“As far as the suspension is concerned it’s done. He has performed all the assignments that the team needed him to go through. It included rehabilitation and seeing a psychologist. He has done all that and he is back with the team now.

“The club has received positive reports from all the necessary people involved during the suspension period and they are happy with his progress and results hence him returning to the team, as people know him he is a happy soul and that’s how he is looking at training right now with the rest of the players which is good for everyone as he is the most experienced player and he has to lead by example,” said Soccer Laduma.
