Njabulo Blom did much of the legwork with an energetic run to the byline, before squaring to a wide-open Billiat who tucked away the opportunity for his fifth goal of the season.

Maritzburg United had an early chance to hurt Chiefs. Lelethu Skelem had played a fine ball to an unmarked Amadou Soukouna in the box but the French-born striker dragged his shot well wide.

After a period where neither side created much going forward, the Team of Choice crafted another opportunity. Zukile Kewuti laid on an enticing ball for Phumlani Ntshangase, however, his left-footed effort curled wide of the mark.

Once Billiat had given Kaizer Chiefs the lead the game turned and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya might have doubled their lead before half time but he couldn’t keep his volley down after being found by a superb diagonal ball from Keagan Dolly.

Deep into the second half substitute Nkosingiphile Ngcobo made the game safe for Kaizer Chiefs with his second goal in three matches.
