Kaizer Chiefs’ interim coach, Cavin Johnson, says it’s too early to judge teenage sensation Wandile Duba.

The 19-year-old scored a stunning goal to give Amakhosi a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening.

Speaking after the game, the Chiefs coach said Duba still had a long way to go despite impressing on his debut.

“To judge him on one game would be premature, but to judge him on the training sessions and the mentality and the attitude he’s displayed at training, then he probably has a long way to go [bright future] with Kaizer Chiefs,” he said post-match.

“He just has to keep on cutting the cloth, and if he stays humble, I think he’ll be a good striker.”

Chiefs’ win over Arrows was their first win of the year and gives them momentum ahead of the Soweto derby.

“We played a lot better in the first half, where we held onto the ball better, and it was only in the second half where we didn’t have possession as much.

Cavin Johnson is in a comfort zone, says former Chiefs striker

“We always try to win the ball back from the opponent, and if we have the ball, they can’t score”.

Johnson said his team played well in patches and hardly lost the ball in the second half.

Duba a new hero for Amakhosi

“Even when we did lose, it wasn’t the player who lost it, who won it back, but another player and that gives the team confidence.

“For sure, I am going to work on that. We’re going to get it right,” the Chiefs coach added.
