Coach Rulani Mokwena looks to be nearing the exit door at Mamelodi Sundowns according to shocking reports this morning.

This surprise turn of events comes just 12 months after Mokwena agreed a four-year deal Sundowns with things looking rosey

Mokwena could exit Sundowns

Now according to reports out of nowhere, both he and Sundowns could be ready to cut ties with three left. SABC Sport confirms that there have been ‘tense’ discussions taking place between all parties, that could lead to Mokwena’s exit. These stem from a loggerheads he seems to have with the club’s sporting director Flemming Berg.

Besides Mokwena, Sundowns also announced that four players have been released by the club. These being Bongani Zungu, Gaston Sirino, Brian Onyango and Thabiso Kutumela. With that being said, there is also the situation of veteran Themba Zwane. According to widespread reports, his contract expired on June 30. Although there have been talks that he is negotiations for an extension, no agreement seems to have been made.

According to KickOff.com, Zwane is now in a bit of a limbo at Sundowns.

Zwane too?

“Mamelodi Sundowns’ stance in matters relating to the contractual situation of Themba Zwane has left the veteran midfielder walking as a free agent with effect from July 1. Based on what has been put in public, Zwane’s contract expired on June 30, which effectively makes him available on the market as a free agent. Whispers suggest no agreement has been reached in keeping Zwane at Chloorkop, where he has had a contract since January 2011.” Wrote the publication

If Sundowns could lose both Zwane and Mokwena at once, it could tough to take for their fans. Since the club are set to go into their busiest season ever, which includes the FIFA Club World Cup.
