‘Talk is cheap’- Lesedi Kapinga speaks for the first time as an Orlando Pirates player! 

Orlando Pirates have beaten Kaizer Chiefs to the signing of Lesedi Kapinga, who has now spoken for the first time as a Buccaneer!

Chiefs and Pirates had both shown and interest in former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lesedi Kapinga, with the Bafana Bafana star choosing the black and white side.

This morning, Pirates fans were greeted by the welcome news of their club adding the tricky Kapinga to their roster, making it their 6th signing of the season. The fifth signing of goalkeeper Siphamandla Gumede from Dondol Stars, has only been announced by the ABC Motsepe League as of now, and is expected to be confirmed by the Buccaneers shortly.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Lesedi Kapinga ahead of the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder, who recently played for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal. Known for his flair, and creativity, Kapinga who formerly played for Black Leopards and Mamelodi Sundowns has 91 official matches under his belt, including 11 goals and 15 assists. He will link up with his new team-mates this week and has been allocated the number 21. Join us as we welcome Lesedi to the Club.” Wrote a statement from the club.

Now in that statement Kapinga spoke for the first time as a Pirates player, keeping it short, sweet and effective.

“I am pleased to join the Club,I’m not much of a talker because talk is cheap. All I’m focused on is to start training and working my way back to playing the game I love.” said Kapinga to the Pirates website.

Chiefs had been keeping tabs on Kapinga and were speaking to his representatives over the possibility to strike a deal.. Pirates on the other hand, also had an early interest in the player that stretched as far back as when he was still at Leopards. From Leopards he snubbed an offer to Soweto and opted for Sundowns instead. Before the end of the season, there were links of a possible swap deal between Pirates and Sundowns for Kapinga and Vincent Pule.

Now Pirates look to have got one over Sundowns, with them extending the contract of Pule and then getting Kapinga on a free.
