SuperSport winger to snub Sundowns, opt for European move

The South African understands that SuperSport United winger Shandre Campbell is set to snub Mamelodi Sundowns, looks for a European move.

Media reports suggest that SuperSport United winger Shandre Campbell is set to snub Mamelodi Sundowns and opt for a European move.

The South African is led to believe the reigning DStv Premiership champions, Sundowns are interested in the SuperSport winger.

SABC Sport reports that the talented SuperSport winger, Campbell is now looking to make a move to Europe instead of joining the Tshwane rivals, Sundowns.

Campbell is currently contracted to SuperSport and his agent, tells the SABC that his client is poised for Europe and not join Sundowns, his agent has told SABC Sport.

In his reaction to the developments and links with Sundowns, Mike Makaab says the 18-year-old winger will not join the Sundowns but wants to go to Europe.

Campbell was promoted to the SuperSport senior team by coach Gavin Hunt at the start of the 2023/24 campaign after he was voted Player of the Year in the DStv Diski Challenge.

“Shandre is earmarked for Europe – his ambition and dream is to play at the highest level possible in Europe,” said Makaab of the SuperSport winger.

“We already have a number of European clubs monitoring him and his progress.”

In addition, the seasoned player agent, Makaab says the Matsatsantsa A Pitori winger as SuperSport are known, Campbell wants to test his quality in a European league.

“This very much depends on the player’s desire, which we will support without a doubt,” adds Makaab.

“Look at our national team, fewer players are going to Europe and we wonder why at times we can’t compete with other African countries.

“The majority of their players are in the top leagues in Europe. Nobody in their right mind would compare the quality of Europe with the PSL.

“We need to get players with supreme talent to the European market as soon as possible. There’s sadly not enough that are playing at this level.”
