Sundowns leave it late to exercise option on striker Gift Motupa

Mamelodi Sundowns have decided to exercise their option on striker Gift Motupa’s contract and he is staying at Chloorkop.

Contrary to media reports, Mamelodi Sundowns have opted to exercise their option to extend striker Gift Motupa’s contract.

The Limpopo-born striker, Motupa was rumoured to be on his way out of the DStv Premiership champions, Sundowns but he is going nowhere.

After experiencing a spate of injuries in the previous premiership season at Sundowns, Motupa was linked with a move to Premier Soccer League returnees, Polokwane City.

SUNDOWNS EXERCISE OPTION ON STRIKER GIFT MOTUPA

The Tshwane giants decided to keep the former Orlando Pirates hitman, Motupa and it is reported the club extended his deal just before the expiration of his contract.

According to informants close to Idiski Times, the striker has joined his teammates in their pre-season camp and he is ready to fight for a place at Sundowns.

The 28-year-old former South Africa junior international, Motupa featured in 22 matches for Sundowns since completing his switch from Bidvest Wits in 2020.

The football publication published that Motupa allegedly had a fallout with management, but he’s seen his option activated in the final few days before the end of June deadline.

iDiski Times sources confirmed he returned to the club for pre-season with the view of getting back to full fitness after a couple of injury-hit months at Chloorkop, where he’s yet to showcase the form that landed him a move to the club,” reports the publication.

In other news as also published by The South African, coach Rulani Mokwena has wielded his axe on the likes of midfielders, Bradley Ralani and Lesedi Kapinga.

Ralani is yet to be linked with any club in the South African top tier whilst Kapinga is said to be heading to Orlando Pirates.

At the same time, Sundowns have also extended the contract of the versatile Thapelo Morena whose agent confirmed that he still has a role to play at Masandawana.

“Thapelo will remain a Sundowns player. Yes, he has an option for a further two years and the club has illustrated how much they appreciate him. (Alprazolam) (Phentermine) I have the utmost confidence that he will remain at the club for a few more years,” Basia Michaels told SABC Sport.

Meanwhile, the CAF Champions League losing semi-finalists have also unveiled midfielders Lesiba Nku and Junior Mendieta respectively.
