Spurs to unleash teenage sensation on Orlando Pirates?

Cape Town Spurs have taken a gamble by naming a 17-year-old sensation on their bench for tonight’s clash against Orlando Pirates!

Orlando Pirates return to action this evening when they host Cape Town Spurs in the first round of the inaugural Carling Knockout Cup.

The Buccaneers had two weeks to celebrate their MTN8 title but all focus will now be on the next Cup competition on offer, the new Carling Cup.

Cape Town Spurs on the other hand will be looking to somehow turn the corner on their miserable return to the top flight.

The Cape side are yet to pick up a single point in the DStv Premiership after eight games. Can they cause a massive cup upset? We’ll have to wait and see. Take a look at how both sides lineup below.

Spurs name 17-year-old star on the bench for Orlando Pirates clash

Cape Town Spurs have named 17-year-old prodigy Luke ‘Boere’ Baartman on the bench for tonight’s clash at the Orlando Stadium.

The attacker has been dubbed as the ‘next big thing’ in local soccer. Baartman has been in scintillating form for the Urban Warriors’ DStv Diski Challenge side this season, scoring six goals in five matches.

He could make his eagerly awaited debut this evening against a star-studded Bucs side!

What time is kick-off

Today’s Carling Knockout Cup round of 16 clash at the Orlando Stadium gets underway at 19:30 SAST.

The match will NOT be broadcasted on SABC however SuperSport PSL will be televising the game.

“I don’t think our success is based on our past success (winning trophies), but mainly because we are Orlando Pirates.” Jose Riveiro said as quoted by Citizen.

“So, every time we go into every competition, we must accept that we will always be one of the favourites to win the tournament, which is a normal thing.

“It is always nice being in a team (Orlando Pirates) that gives you the possibility to challenge for every trophy. Winning the final early in the season was a boost for us in terms of confidence.”
